Anthony Albanese says banning fossil fuel exports and new coal and gas mines won’t stop global warming, but will devastate the Australian economy.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says banning fossil fuel exports and new coal and gas mines to try and reduce climate emissions won’t stop global warming but would devastate the Australian economy.

“And that coal wouldn’t lead to a reduction in global emissions, what you would see is a replacement with coal from other countries that is likely to produce higher emissions, because of the quality of our product. However, the Coalition maintained its policy of reducing emissions by the end of this decade by only 28 per cent, earning it the reputation of being a laggard on the international stage, particularly when compared to the United States and Britain.Albanese said opening new coal and gas mines would no longer hurt the country’s international reputation on the world stage because Australia was part of the conversation again.

Labor’s Climate Change Bill is due before the House on Wednesday morning, after the new parliament’s swearing-in on Tuesday.
