Political leaders around the world are wielding social media companies as a weapon to censor journalism critical of their policies, according to Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton. Mr Houghton said the political class seems to have forgotten its purpose is to represent the people.
“Around the world media freedoms are under attack by the very people who should be scrutinised most thoroughly, the politicians themselves,” Mr Houghton said. “In America, this has taken the form of pressure from the Democrats to force Facebook to ban news stories and election analysis they dislike. “And in Australia our politicians are just as outraged when anyone dares to disagree with them.”
