‘Defeats the purpose’: Is it time month-long booze-free challenges get a refresh? | sopphie

Every year as winter’s grip takes hold, thousands of Australians nobly challenge themselves to ditch the booze as part of Dry July.is putting forward its own alternative campaign, focused on moderating intake rather than an all-or-nothing approach: Dry-er July.a business built on being alcohol-free

Miller adds that many people choose not to do Dry July because they have upcoming events, or they take part in the challenge only to fail and feel guilty. Professor Nicole Lee, of Curtin University’s National Drug Research Institute, says that of those who challenge themselves to a month booze-free, about one-third fail, but she stresses that events like Feb Fast and Dry July are designed as fundraisers, not to change people’s relationship with alcohol.

pleased to see more open discussion about it, adding that he sees alcohol-free beer and wine as being a good tool for social situations.
