A moment of cunning or just plain old cheating? The cricket world stands divided! 9WWOS

Star wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock has divided the cricket world with a moment of deception that ended the brilliant innings of Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman on 193, saving South Africa from a potentially tension-filled final over asFakhar's incredible knock never looked like it would be enough to overhaul South Africa's total of 341 in the second ODI match of the series in Johannesburg overnight.

Sensing that a run out could be on, de Kock signalled that the ball was heading towards the bowler's end, all the while knowing that the throw was on its way to the striker's end. The dismissal overshadowed the brilliant innings, with some viewers applauding de Kock's cheeky ingenuity while others slammed the tactic and argued that it actually breached cricket's Laws.

Law 41.5.1 states that "it is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball". "You've always got to look for ways especially when things are not going your way, got to find ways to turn momentum around. Quinny did that - I don't think he broke the rules in any kind of way. It was a clever piece of cricket."

If an Aussie had done that they would've been crucified by the fans and the ACB, just saying

De kock outwitted the batsman.. nothing more. Batsman allowed himself to be distracted by De kocks hand gesture. Well played De kock.

Very, very poor running, so he’s the only one to blame. That said, DeKock should be punished for conduct not in the spirit of the game-its there for all to see!

Pure Pakistani Shit house cricket cricketbasics

Not cheating but def a dog act and deserved a clip around the ears

Nothing wrong with that he was focused on running the batsman out the batsman was focused on the other end of the wicket. Outwitted.

A moment of cunning or just plain old cheating?

Nothing wrong with cunning. The batsman was a fool

Not getting any points for Sportsmanship for sure

That’s fair play... not even a hint of foul play in this at all.

Aust are only ones that ‘plain old’ cheat

That’s about as much cheating as a wrong un.

How is it cheating? batsman should be concentrating on his own game
