Danish soccer player Christian Eriksen is “stable and awake” after collapsing mid-match in Saturday’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland, but Denmark's team doctor has revealed how serious the situation was.

when the midfielder fell face-forward into the turf late in the first half of Denmark’s tournament opener against Finland.

“We were called on the pitch when Christian fell down, I didn’t see myself but it was pretty clear he was unconscious,” Boesen said. “The help came really, really fast from the medical team and the rest of the staff, and with their co-operation we did what we had to do. We managed to get Christian back.”Christian Eriksen is stretchered off of the pitch.Denmark formed a shield around Eriksen as he was treated by medics on the pitch – several of the athletes were spotted in tears while others prayed.

Eriksen’s partner Sabrina Kvist Jensen was brought down towards the pitch, where she was consoled by Denmark captain Simon Kjaer and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
