was weak and could create a precedent to block travellers with undesirable political views who pose no real risk to the community.by the tennis world No.1 in April 2020, before COVID-19 vaccines were created, in which he said he was “opposed to vaccination” but was “no expert”, had an “open mind” and wanted “an option to choose what’s best for my body”.
“Do the comments in 2020 disentitle him from playing a tennis game in Australia in 2022?” she said. “Does that really pose such a threat to public health in a situation where we’ve got 95 per cent of the adult population vaccinated? It was also ironic that the government’s attempt to remove Djokovic had given his views a week of international attention, he said. “They have magnified the anti-vax voice.”Luis Ascui
Australian Lawyers Alliance spokesman Greg Barns, SC, a barrister experienced in migration cases, said the government would be justified in blocking Djokovic if he was coming to Australia to spruik anti-vaccination views. “But he’s coming here to play tennis, and his views [on vaccination] are somewhat muddied,” he said.
Ms Wright said the new reasoning used by Mr Hawke “smacked of arbitrariness” and highlighted the undue extent of the minister’s discretionary powers. Ms Zogovic accused the government of playing politics and sent the tennis pro the following message: “Nole [Djokovic’s nickname], the only way they could stop you from winning that 21st grand slam is to not let you play at all.”“A lot of people are confused about the legal system now here in Australia,” Mr Bendjo said.
Exactly. And who decides that the traveler has 'political views' that are 'undesirable?' Also, 'undesirable' to whom? What ever happened to human rights in that country? What a travesty.
If you know the Monty python scetch, 'crucifixion' below. This is what the Australian govt is using as their defence...
We have blocked people with undesirable political views in the past. For instance, David Irving was blocked by us and a number of democratic nations. Nations need this sort of power. There will always be debate around appropriate use.
That same power has previously been used to deport, or prevent from entering, Nazi sympathisers wanting to tour Aus & do lectures on their topic of hatred. I'm no fan of Hawke & certainly no fan of Djokovic - but no one complains when the legislation is used in those situations.

No it's not about that is about whether your unvaccinated or not that's it black and white
Yawn
DjokerSA
It a lousy decision. But an appropriate power - been around for nearly 70 years. Nothing is more finadametal to national security than deciding entry to the country. When in dispute, as here, ultimately it must be a political decision by the peoples’ elected representatives.
Blinkers off, this goes well beyond Djoker. Covid and 💉, essentially says any skeptic or different opinion to any narrative can now be censored. Next step in coercion and control.
This is the great irony - many Australians who are Novak supporters probably voted for the implementation of the border protection regime that enabled his deportation.

All our rights have slowly been stripped going way back to 9/11 so why think it’s only just beginning 🤷🏼♂️🇦🇺☠️
Oh rubbish. If anyone has lied to enter a country they’d be refused entry. Only his money demanded time wasting appeals.
This would never had happened had it not been such a popular decision politically, this is the most popular decision the Morrison Government has made in 2 years that didn’t involve giving people money.
Today only justice has won. Neither be number 1, nor have a lot of money. Only justice has won this tournament. congratulations Australia
