A NSW police officer has found out first-hand just how dangerous the state's new 'go slow' rule can be.

7 NewsThe video was filmed on December 28 on a highway near Ballina and shows two police officers on motorbikes pulled over behind a stopped car.

The officer watches as the driver veers into the left lane while trying to brake, causing the massive vehicle to skid for over 60 metres.Simon O’Hara, from Road Freight NSW, toldThe officer narrowly avoided being hit. Picture: 7 News“If you’ve got a fully loaded truck having to slow down very quickly to 40km/h you might end up with an outcome that is anything but safe,” he said.

“Of course, we need to create space between vehicles and workers, and we need motorists to slow down around emergency and roadside assistance vehicles for the safety of everyone on the road,” he said.

I agree with the principle but When other people working on the roads undertake their jobs, they are required to set up numerous signs and warnings. Emergency responders need to somehow do the same. I don’t know how but they need to work that out asap before someone gets killed

yes its totally dangerous for many people, a rethink needed here

Absolute bonkers. Rule needs to go.

It's only a matter of time before this rule actually causes a fatality

Two things: 1. Let's give drivers some time to adjust to the rule. We don't all pass emergency workers every day, & 2. Emergency workers have to be aware their isn't always the visibility or space for all vehicles to safely decelerate (which may make the fine somewhat draconian)

This could simply be solved by the police officers ensure that when they pull a vehicle over they have stopped in a position that makes sure there is clear visibly that they are there

The UK and NSW are just the worst places to live in the world because of control freak over taxed nanny state governments.

I’ve nearly had people hit me on the highway in Vic for this rule also. Very dangerous in a 100-110km zone

Try it in a car coming around a bend. Bloody stupid idea. Did this get dreamed up by the Greens? Sounds like one of their hair brained ideas. Waiting for the first death.

They're not the sharpest tools in the pack.

what is happening with our recession? auspol
