Czech folk singer dies, son claims she intentionally caught COVID

A popular Czech folk singer has died after catching COVID-19 in a bid to obtain a health pass without getting vaccinated.

Hana Horka, 57, was unvaccinated and had earlier posted that she was recovering after testing positive to the virus. BBC reports that her son, Jan Rek, said she got infected when he and his father – both of whom were vaccinated – caught the virus.Radio Prague International reported Rek saying his mother had refused to be vaccinated and wanted to gain immunity by contracting the disease.

“She was supposed to stay away from us, but she decided to remain at home with us normally, preferring to go through the disease than to get vaccinated,” he said. In the Czech Republic, a proof of vaccination or of recent infection is required to be permitted to enter many public venues. Days before her death, Horka posted: “I survived … It was intense. So now there will be the theatre, sauna, a concert … and an urgent trip to the sea.”“I know exactly who influenced her … It makes me sad that she believed strangers more than her proper family,” Rek said.
