The UN says that one of the worst storms to hit South-West Africa has unleashed a humanitarian crisis. Here's how you can help.

As the full-scale devastation caused by Cyclone Idai is revealed more each day, the death toll continues to rise.

The United Nations has just allocated $US20 million to ramp-up emergency food, shelter, water and health care supplies to the hundreds-of-thousands impacted across Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. "We do not yet know enough about the level of destruction to give an accurate estimate of the amount of this call for funds, but it will be important," spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters at UN headquarters in New York. Five days after the cyclone cut a swathe through the three nations, the confirmed death toll stood at more than 300 and hundreds of thousands of lives were at risk, officials said.
