Residents on the east coast of NSW are being warned to brace for the effects of Tropical Cyclone Uesi over the weekend, but it's likely the state will avoid the worst of that weather system.

Surf conditions are expected to ease during the week, however, with only the South Coast still under a damaging surf warning. The rough weather and partial flooding will be a small price to pay in the South Coast and Snowy-Monaro areas, however, if the excess rain can continue putting fires out.

Close to 800 personnel were out during Tuesday, but only a hundred or so of those were fighting fires - the rest were assisting the State Emergency Service at various hazards around the state.
