Curtin University ranked highest among bosses for the quality of graduates, but a survey found students who studied off campus lacked collaboration skills.

Universities are producing graduates who adapt to the workforce easily, but fewer than half of all employers and grads say their qualification is important to their job, a survey has found.

Interestingly, half of all employers said graduates came equipped with the necessary job-specific skills and knowledge, while just 30 per cent said they arrived with the necessary technical and professional skills.Bec Ellinson’s learning experience during her five-year double degree in engineering and science was both on-campus and online.

“It was quite a shift, but I was well set up because I had networks already established,” Ms Ellinson said. “I relied a lot on collaboration with friends to understand concepts. It was harder to engage with tutors and lecturers, so we relied on each other.”
