Charles Leclerc didn’t disappoint in an incident-packed qualifying session at Albert Park in which there were crashes and bashes and lots of happy Ferrari fans. australiangrndprix melbourne

The crowds thronged into Albert Park as Formula One starved fans lapped up the sights, sounds and sensations of grand prix racing – and none were celebrating more than the scarlet-clad hordes who barrack for Ferrari after Charles Leclerc put the red racer in pole position for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.

After a long period of domination by the Mercedes and Red Bull teams the prancing horses of Ferrari are back in contention, and Leclerc had just enough pace to deny reigning world champion, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who was second fastest, with the latter’s Mexican teammate Sergio Perez third quickest.

The West Australian had declared on Friday that his big aim was to make it into the last session of qualifying, which would mean he was in the top half of the 20-strong field.
