The AFL Players Association has reportedly proposed shortened quarters and two bye weeks per season in a bid to reduce the league’s injury crisis.
The likes of Richmond , Collingwood , Carton , West Coast , Fremantle and Hawthorn have been hit the hardest, with Magpies coach Craig McRae questioning whether shortening quarters could be a solution. Ralph reported the AFLPA is pushing for shortened quarters — like in the 2020 Covid-affected campaign — and clubs having two byes as a “starting point” in a bid to reduce injuries.“So is the AFL’s issue now about health and safety? Or is it about monetising a March 8 start to the season, Gather Round, extra rounds, 30 weekends of football?,” Ralph posed.
