Cricket Australia chair Earl Eddings resigns, one day before he was due to stand for re-election at the AGM.

Cricket Australia chair Earl Eddings has resigned just one day before he was due to stand for re-election at the governing body's annual general meeting.Eddings spent 13 years as a director of Cricket Australia .Peever resigned after facing criticism of his handling of the Longstaff review, which investigated the sandpaper ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town and the broader culture of elite Australian cricket.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to be able to serve the sport I love as a Cricket Australia director," Eddings said. "In that time, and particularly during my time as chair, we have navigated some of the sport's greatest challenges, including rebuilding the trust and reputation of Australian cricket after the Newlands [Cape Town] incident and, more recently, the enormous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on domestic and international cricket."Richard Freudenstein, a CA director, has been elected chair and will serve for a short period until a permanent chair is elected, Cricket Australia said.

The CA board had previously said a successor to the chair would be named after the end of the 2021-22 season.
