Taliban's treatment of women a 'red line', says UN rights chief

Nasir Ahmad Andisha, the Afghan ambassador to the UN in Geneva appointed under the now collapsed government of ex-president Ashraf Ghani and who continues to represent his country, made clear that he wanted to see strong action.

But a draft resolution presented on Monday to the council only recommended that Ms Bachelet present a report on the rights situation in Afghanistan during the main annual council session next March, drawing condemnation. The official told The Associated Press the meeting between Mr Burns and Baradar came amid the ongoing evacuations at the Kabul airport.

The Taliban says crowds of Afghans thronging Kabul airport seeking a flight out of the country could go home.

Yeah what she gonna do without a military to backup the red line 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I dont support any individual or groups whom suppress and/or apply unreasonable, unjust and inhumane treatment of women or children.... But its a bit rich to make demands of the Taliban when it is they whom are the victors over the invaders of their lands.

And Australia's treatment of it's citizens? Even the left in the US realise Australia is turning very ugly in the way it's dealing with the Chimerica flu.

Stop murdering everyone or else we'll... hold a conference next year

And UN will do nothing and just talk while expect others to follow their orders while the hierarchy reap in the donation money and build their own wealth

Cool story...

A very stern finger wag is warranted I believe!

And exactly what does she propose doing?

The Taliban are creatures from the Middle Ages- their rules are their own. The Australians and others standing in sewerage waiting to leave the country are the new reality. I despair at what is happening there.

I realize that these words need to be said, however, you are talking to a turbaned wall . . . .

Diss e EastSyde, den yuh know crisis

One day, USA will admit that it was a very big, costly & fruitless mistake to invade Afghanistan, just like Viet Nam. There were no gains from these ventures! Is this how USA wants to be known for – bungled international forays? What happened to USA heroism of WWI & WWII? Shame.

Always be a man’s world.

No shit.

Voters the losers as Tasmanian Labor woes rob government of credible oppositionIn Bastian Seidel, Tasmania Labor looked to have had a capable right-hand man to their leader, Rebecca White. But he has quit after just a year, saying he is 'disillusioned, bitter and sad' — and likely is not the only person watching what passes for politics in Tasmania who is feeling that way, writes Emily Baker. Name a single state that currently has a credible opposition. Seidel out, O'Byrne refusing calls to resign. Very bad look. Tas ALP badly needs a reset... Bec has to tell her troops to grow up.
