Various dictionaries and language institutes have begun rolling out their Word of the Year lists, and like everything else in 2020, it's all about COVID-19.broke with precedent to announce two Words of the Year, in recognition of how dominant the coronavirus pandemic has been in the past 11 months.

The Macquarie National Dictionary has nominated its Word Of The Year.The dictionary's generic Word of the Year was "doomscrolling" – referring to the practice of continue to read, watch or otherwise peruse online news feeds and social media, despite the upsetting and depressing content.The Macquarie isn't the only dictionary to have broken with tradition in announcing two words of the year.
