A 30 year old man and the 32 year old woman are badly injured when they briefly lose control of their boat on the river at Sackville North after a spider dropped down from the roof.

A couple boating on the Hawkesbury River in Sydney's North West on Saturday afternoon have had a lucky escape after a spider spooked them so badly they crashed into an embankment, with a 32-year-woman thrown several metres.

NSW Ambulance Acting Duty Operations Manager Inspector Peter Van Praag said it all happened so quickly.

I have seen a huntsman as big as a dinner plate on a wooden pylon swimming in a river that nearly drowned my sister and I, the fright that is we were used to seeing them at home but not swimming after us.

I can not believe that they were spooked only by the spider ! If so, they are too weak.

I can understand this.

this is why I think education about spiders should be more common, perhaps taught in school. This would help curb arachnophobia and accidents like this may have been avoided.

FFS.......really? And this is news

Umm. Ok. Do not let them near spiders or boats in future pls!

damojonesz this you?

City folk 🤦‍♂️

After being freaked out by a huntsman dropping from the visor, my ex refused to get back in the car until I showed her the body.

Which species is the superior one in this scenario?

Oh for fuck sake. Toughen up people!

🤦‍♀️

I'm the same way with spiders. They scare me immensely.

Glad they lived through it. Sounds like an AAMI commercial gone wrong. The guys' name wasn't Keith was it?

Not a harmful spider. Idiots going to idiocy.
