Councillors could be allowed to "attend" official meetings online after coronavirus restrictions are eased, under a NSW government bid partly aimed at increasing the number of women who serve on councils across the state.
"During the height of the pandemic, the overwhelming majority of the state’s local councils held virtual meetings, with many councils still choosing to meet electronically." "Many councils hold their meetings at night which can be difficult for people with family and carer responsibilities. The project is backed by politicians including Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore, former mayor Lucy Turnbull, councillor Kerryn Phelps and Bega Valley Shire mayor-turned-federal MP for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain.
