Lawyers for the family of Gunnai, Gunditjmara and Wiradjuri man Raymond Thomas flag serious concerns about the police investigation into Mr Thomas's death during an inner-Melbourne police pursuit in 2017.

"Police pursuits, and deaths resulting from police pursuits, disproportionately impact upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities," VALS chief executive Nerita Waight said in a statement.

"Police officers must be provided with clear guidelines on pursuits, and community safety must be paramount in any decision to commence a pursuit." Ms Waight also said VALS and Mr Thomas's family held"serious concerns" about the police investigation into Mr Thomas's death and alleged that not all relevant evidence had been investigated or kept for the coroner's consideration.

"This is yet another instance demonstrating that an independent body, such as IBAC, should investigate police contact deaths," Ms Waight said.In a statement, Mr Thomas's family remembered him as a"big man with a big heart" who was affectionately known as the"gentle giant"."Big Raymond loved his family. Most precious to him was his niece Leahtia who he adored.

"Now our family show photos of Uncle Raymond to his nieces and talk to them about him, to keep him alive in their hearts and ours.""Hopefully accountability will result through this process, and changes can be made to prevent any other family having to experience what we have since his passing," the statement said.

If you make a habit of putting other people's lives at risk you don't have a good soul, you are an ass-hole.

Poor choices have poor outcomes. No seatbelt, alcohol a factor, driving at reckless speed after failing to stop for police. I feel sorry for his family. HE made stupid choices which resulted is his death.

I would have thought a pertinent fact of the incident was why he was driving the car dangerously resulting in his death? Bad faith article with an obvious agenda.

Nobody cares about degenerate criminals.
