A coroner investigating the stabbing murder of Mackay woman Shandee Blackburn has found her former partner, John Peros, is the person responsible for her death, despite his acquittal in 2017.

A coroner investigating the 2013 death of Mackay woman Shandee Blackburn has found her former partner, John Peros, is responsible for her death, despite his acquittal in 2017.

The 23-year-old was walking home from work in the early hours of February 9, 2013 when she was brutally stabbed more than 20 times. Mr Peros was found not guilty of Ms Blackburn's murder by a Supreme Court jury after a 12-day trial in 2017, and has maintained his innocence throughout the inquest. Handing down his findings, coroner David O'Connell told the inquest there was ample evidence that showed Mr Peros had motive to attack Ms Blackburn."This is the only rational conclusion," he said.
