A few days after celebrating her eighth birthday, Anita Board crashed her drag racer into a concrete barrier at Perth Motorplex and died. Now a coroner is recommending improved safety measures in the sport.

"A serious event like this in junior drag racing is so rare that it seems no one, other than perhaps the paramedics, fully appreciated the seriousness of the situation at first," Ms Linton said.
