A new study has found having low levels of a particular vitamin could make people more likely to die from coronavirus. The kicker is: lockdown isn’t helping.

, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, found that the vitamin plays a critical role in preventing respiratory infections and boosting the immune system response to infections.

The researchers wrote that vitamin D reduced the risk of chest infections by half in people who took supplements. The latest study found older people in Switzerland, Italy and Spain were the most at risk of being deficient. “The most vulnerable group of the population for COVID-19 is also the one that has the most deficit in vitamin D,” it wrote.

The researchers wrote that vitamin D reduced the risk of chest infections by half in people who took supplements. Picture: istock.Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that promotes healthy bones and supports immune system function. Your body produces vitamin D naturally when it’s directly exposed to sunlight, but it can also be obtained from eating foods such as fatty fish, egg yolks, mushrooms and cheese.

davetaylor2112 Sounds decidedly fishy to me...literally): Salmon, Herrying, Sardines, Cod liver oil, tinned tuna. Didn't know what foods were rich in vitamin D till I googled. What would work for vegans, I wonder?

GO OUTSIDE IN THE SUN

Lots of scholarly reviews showing that Vitamin D boosts the immune system, so why wouldn't it help to fight a virus?

its not about surviving the virus with vitamins , its about staying out of its way so you don't get it in the first place , so lockdown is actually helping , fucking muppet.

you can still sit in your front or back yard to get it go for walk

A new study heavily funded by Vit D manufacturers

not “could” but DOES!!

old studies too...

NicoletteErasms Vitamin D is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies and can make you susceptible to many illnesses. This is misleading.

Logically would be why so many in cancer wards and nursing homes are getting hit.

Yeah it’s called the sun. Lock down will make you less healthy

You can take it in capsule form for now.

Shame we cannot go outside and get our vitamin d from the sun

I can just imagine the bun fights at the pharmacies over the Vitamin D capsules🤦‍♂️

NicoletteErasms Vitamin D is free. Just get enough sunshine.

Quietly slip in the sentence it's not peer reviewed, which means the study means nothing

Not mentioned in your article is the corelation between lighter skin colour and darker skin colour in relation to vitamin D levels. People with darker skin require more time in the sun to absorb sufficient vit D

Now people will try and eat the sun!

here we go...a run on Vitamin D sales!
