Residents have been told not to approach a 28-year-old man who remains on the run after allegedly taking four siblings from a northern Queensland home before public pressure may have influenced the children being returned.

The four children - aged between three and eight - were taken from a property near Mackay in northern Queensland at about 11:30am on Thursday.after being returned to the house they were abducted from.

The children were returned later. Police believe he may have cracked under the pressure from the public making inquiries after an amber alert was issued. Picture: Queensland Police Queensland Police Inspector Ryan Draheim believes the general public coming forward with information had"some influence" on the return of the kids.
