Grant Stevens told a parliamentary committee hearing police on the border were stopping some trucks, randomly or based on intelligence, but others were waved through without questioning.
He said Victorian-based drivers who entered the state must be approved to enter as an essential traveller and must comply with a number of conditions, including mandatory quarantine, when they are not handling freight. Mr Stevens’ evidence comes days after the Victorian border was closed to all non-essential travellers, including residents of South Australia. The increased measures are an attempt to prevent the surging coronavirus case numbers in Victoria from spreading.
