Cop raced to stop Gargasoulas getting bail, Bourke St inquest hears | epearson_3

The detective who was investigating Bourke Street killer James Gargasoulas in the days before the 2017 tragedy says he frantically ran down the stairs of a police station to stop a bail justice granting the criminal bail.

The detective had done hundreds of bail applications in his time at the Port Phillip criminal investigation unit and said investigators usually had a fair idea of whether a bail justice, given the job of holding court hearings in police stations after hours, would remand or release an offender. But on January 14, 2017, just six days before Gargasoulas drove down Bourke Street killing six people and injuring dozens more – the officer said his warnings were ignored.

"I recall saying to the bail justice [Gargasoulas] needs to be given ... mental health and drug treatment and he won't get it if he’s left to his own devices,’ he said.Detective Senior Constable Gentner also rebuffed suggestions from the bail justice that he didn’t inform the hearing of Gargasoulas' pending charges or that the bail hearing was rushed and ill-prepared.

Quick, someone get a trolley. Take out terrorists the Aussie way .... With Crate We Stand!!! ? Maybe actually call ppl specialised in the severely mentally unwell like a CAT team vs the police to deescalate a situation vs making it a million times worse. That’d be a good start.. sadly we’ve decreased acute psych service funding so let’s watch for more adverse outcomes

Chilling radio communications describe Bourke St attacker as 'armed, dangerous and psychotic' | Sky News AustraliaA Coronial inquest into the Bourke Street massacre will on Tuesday hear from the police officer who tried to convince convicted killer James Gargasoulas to surrender as he led police in a car chase across Melbourne. \n\nThe inquest was played chilling radio communications from police units as they followed Gargasoulas from his home in Windsor where he stabbed his brother Angelo as he led them to the Melbourne CBD. \n\nGargasoulas was described as “armed, dangerous and psychotic” in radio excerpts from January 20,2017, when he killed six people and injured 27 more. Armed, dangerous & psychotic, and the police response........let him get into the pedestrian laden CBD in the hope he will calm down. Had he known fatal vehicle stopping force would be applied, he probably would have complied with an order to stop well before the cbd. Shocking response. He certainly did play the police as cowards. Just hope police are ready if there’s a next time. Not confident of that though. The police officer tries to reason with a lunatic. How's that workin' for ya?

Bourke Street killer's name won't be said at inquestHis name has become inextricably linked with the tragic events in Bourke Street almost three years ago, but murderer James Gargasoulas will only be known as the offender throughout a coronial inquest into the deaths of his victims. the sick abc won't show the whole video of the carnage this cretin caused. Good, saying his name only gives him power. Need an inquiry into Port Arthur first. The 2nd Empty Chair: The Port Arthur Paradox is an action thriller, based on the witness statements and court documents. 'Pokes more holes in the official story than a pastafarian's colander...'
