A convicted killer and rapist convicted of breaching a community protection order by not reporting his online dating and Facebook accounts to police had a late 1980s understanding of technology, a Hobart court hears.

A Hobart court has heard there was nothing sinister or untoward in the actions of a convicted rapist and killer when he joined multiple dating sites, and used an alias on Facebook.

He used the Facebook messenger service to send two messages to a woman he had begun dating after meeting her online. He was also charged with fraud offences but today those charges were dismissed, after prosecutors tendered no evidence.Defence lawyer Fabiano Cangelosi said Curtis had"a late 1980s understanding of technology" and"a naive idea of what you can do with a mobile phone"."The result of that was that in 1986 when he went to jail, he knew of personal computers but he didn't have one … he had very limited use of a computer [in jail].

Mr Cangelosi said the alias Curtis used on Facebook was not created to avoid police detection, but rather because he was aware that he would be the target of unwanted attention because of his past crimes.

Paedophile whose victims were as young as 15 months old among Australia's worst, court toldAn Adelaide paedophile who sexually violated more than a dozen children in Australia and Thailand, and shared videos of the abuse, is described as one of Australia's worst child sex offenders. Unfortunately, from all reports this particular matter is but the tip of the iceberg. Wonderful he`s off the streets. Castration. Should be an instant action taken. Disgusting creature. In training for the Catholic clergy. At least he had the conviction of pleading guilty, unlike some of the clergy.

Scott Morrison slams 'deeply distressing' restaurant plan for Bali bombing siteThe plan to build a restaurant and nightclub on the 2002 Bali bombing site has drawn strong criticism from Australia's Prime Minister. It’s been nothing more than a car park for nearly twenty years and nothing had been done to make it into a “peace park” Now three weeks out from an election it’s all of a sudden a major issue. If it was so important why wasn’t something done sooner? Find out who owns the site and what other businesses they own and publish that info so people can boycott ALL their businesses ? It’s somebody’s private property. The the government doesn’t want it developed they should buy it and pay for it to be turned into a park.
