An heir to one of Australia's biggest private businesses is firming as the likely replacement to Finance Minister Mathias Cormann when he resigns from the Senate.
Julian Ambrose , an heir to WA construction billionaire Len Buckeridge, is set to be picked by the WA Liberal party to replace Finance Minister Mathias Cormann when he resigns from the Senate later this year.Mr Ambrose's candidacy is not a done deal, with some within the party questioning his political credentials and encouraging other contenders to enter the race before nominations close at the end of September.
"Being mayor of Joondalup is a great honour, and I got into politics to make a difference for my community and state and this is another opportunity." After a protracted litigation, in 2018 the family decided to sell the BGC business empire to resolve the dispute. Plans to break up the business were shelved with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and Mr Ambrose, along with Mr Buckeridge's sons, withdrew from the day-to-day management of the business.
