UPDATE: Train bosses have urged people to leave work early, or delay travel, as lengthy delays continue. 9News

"The Rail Operations Centre is working on a plan to run a frequent service on all lines. Please consider travelling home earlier/later or delay any non-essential travel. Updates to follow."

Train bosses have now shared an image of the broken hatch on a train roof, which caused the meltdown. Even at lunch time the issues continued, with some complaining of being trapped on floored services around the city. Jenan tweeted: "Just waited a whole hour for a train to arrive and when it finally stopped at my station it was so full we couldn't even board it."
