Comedian Joe Lycett 'shreds' $17,000 in protest against David Beckham's Qatar World Cup partnership

When the deadline passed, Lycett posted a short video on Twitter, where he did not speak, but simply walked up to a shredder and dropped in two large piles of cash.

In the original video, Lycett described Beckham as a "gay icon", and referenced his historic support of the LGBTIQ+ community. "Qatar was voted as one of the worst places in the world to be gay; homosexuality is illegal punishable by imprisonment and, if you're Muslim, possibly even death."If Beckham did end the partnership, Lycett said he would donate to the money to charities supporting LGBTIQ+ people in football.What is Qatar's record with the LGBTIQ+ community?Homosexual activity is a criminal offence in Qatar and can be punishable with a jail sentence.
