A growing number of Chinese-Australians feel like they’re 'collateral damage' as relations between China and Australia deteriorate, according to some community groups:

Co-founder of advocacy network Asian Australian Alliance and a former member of the Labor Party, Erin Chew.

“A lot of Chinese-Australians feel they’re collateral damage as a result of the negativity between Australia and China,” Mr Chan told SBS News. In the first debate on 20 April, defending his government’s response to the pact, Mr Morrison asked Mr Albanese, “When you use terms like ‘whose side are you on?’, [which is] quite divisive, as a visible minority, we are more easily targeted for racism and discrimination,” she said.“A lot more recently, I have been picking up particularly on Twitter, some of the racist rhetoric coming out of the Australian federal election,” Ms Chew said.

Why they live in Australia not China

Yep I can well understand that feeling

When talking about the Sino-Australian relations that they have destroyed, politicians like to talk about basic values and national sovereignty. The Chinese have no interest in Australia’s so-called basic values and have never asked others to accept the Chinese values.

which community groups? those associated with Beijing?

Australia should be ashamed of itself. Morrison, the head of govt, running around expounding HATE and vitriol against another nation. Then the audacity to threaten the Solomons with invasion. Enough US vassal crap... enough. Now the govt is supporting a NAZI UKRAINIAN REGIME

I love the Chinese, they do not make trouble in this country like some other groups. We live in a multicultural society (I think) so let’s respect the Chinese Australians same as we respect everybody else. The more diverse we are, the more resilliant we are. Vote One Nation!

I have no problem discriminating against the evil CCP and evil communism. Let’s respect the Chinese who left China to get away from the evil CCP and evil communism. Let’s respect the Chinese who have chosen Australia’s democracy and freedoms, rejecting the CCP.

I believe people should be treated commensurate with their behavior. Race or culture shouldn't be a part of it. If you are Chinese and a dick, you deserve to be treated like a dick. If not, then great. I have met a lot of fucking rude Chinese, but also a lot of nice ones.

They’re more than welcome to have a street March of “Chinese for Australia” but there’s zero chance of that happening. And that’s the problem.

in face of Russia attacking Ukraine and Chinese warnings for Taiwan, Philippines, and Australia by buying Salomon's government, we are not sure how many of Chinese Australians are just CCP agents.

We are having clear indications that we are being pushed under the bus for the USA. I work with Chinese partners here in the Middle East and they are loyal partners and focus on making strong business partnerships.

Let's not pretend to be a victim, Australia!

sbs the victim channel !

Just to be clear.

Does not matter who started the 'war of words' re: China/Aust. It is so childish to keep shouting at one another, giving voice to hate Is there not enough conflict in our precious world Chinese/Australians help build this country we live in and are still doing just that

This must stop,it’s Chinese government not the ordinary people, the average Chinese are a gentle people ?

Maybe if China stopped talking shit and throwing threats our way things would be different.

Not just Asian Australians being collateral damage, the entire country’s economy, security and standing in the region has been damaged

Vladimir Putin tells Finland that swapping neutrality for NATO is a mistakeRussia's President tells his Finnish counterpart that ditching neutrality and joining NATO would be a mistake that could damage relations between their two countries. Sadly the West is just as evil, Julian Assange remains in jail for exposing war crimes.. I hope Finland said no, invading Ukraine was a big mistake. Hopefully there will not be a NATO military build up in that country.

I started investing in shares a year ago, so how am I doing?I’ve come to believe the hardest thing about share investing is the decision on whether you should be investing in the first place. It is important to consider the myriad alternative uses for your money, writes Jess Irvine | OPINION money Your ad is very funny. I can see why you turned off the comments. Do you think the fact you have to spruik a lack of bias might be a hint for you that no one believes it. Fair hint I would have thought. Smells like, I mean seems like many franchise business. Very little control over your investment when economy goes arse up for a few years.
