PM Anthony Albanese is facing his first hurdle in the Voice to Parliament referendum process, with the Coalition pushing to have pamphlets promoting both the 'Yes' and 'No' cases distributed to every household and to have equal funding for both campaigns.

Previous legislation around referendums required the"Yes" and"No" booklets to be sent out for any referendum.

The government is moving new Machinery of Referendum legislation to end the practice but the Coalition party room resolved today to vote against the Bill unless their changes around the booklets and the equal funding for both campaigns are adopted. The government would need the Greens and two Independents to vote for the Bill if the Coalition does not vote for the legislation.

The Coalition changes would give some funding to the"No" campaign with the No supporters expected to be outgunned by corporate donations to the Yes campaign.

Warren Mundine when announcing the No case said he was “backed by billionaires”. So why does he need public money? He lived off LNP Government contracts/public money for years, including funds from the LNP for”advice” and direct payments to his company to appear on Sky.See sources

MABO TREATY SHUV YOUR VOICE 👍💯🤣🧐😊

mangrovejack054 Sounds reasonable

should've been that way from the start, Albo is shady as.

Good we the people need to make informed decisions.

OMGTheMess no a pm a traitor to the Australian people was selected not elected

sounds fair. Albo should have no problem with that.

Stop WASTING our money.

Those that want to vote no,supply your own brochures at your cost!

So the coalition wants the ALP to do their job for them 😆 🤣 😂. And I thought scomo was a lazy ct

A fair fight you say? A cunning plan that may have some merit.

You mean the left overs?

Meanwhile, Pat in the Hat seems to be in almost every photo op with Albo! Will he be 'the voice', or is he that now 🤔

Once again the libs demanding we burn money

What is a 'hurdle' for Albo...is common sense for the public

How many more millions on this racist garbage is this halfwit going to keep pouring our tax money in !?

No, because the no camp is lying about why to vote no. The two tings are not the same.

That is exactly how government funded information on a referendum should be disseminated

AlboMP is a fascist

OMGTheMess What an absolute waste of money and time this is for everyone, we already have the facilities in place to fix problems in aboriginal communities etc, we just need the will to work together.

He really doesn't like democracy

LNP do not want any change to the nothing they did for 9 years. Because that’s what their boss wants. You k with that Sky Rupert?

Whoa a not totally useless opposition? 🤔

Albo (AlboMP) claims that those opposed to the “Voice” are waging a culture war yet perhaps someone should ask him about his mates, the Fabian Socialists (NSWFabians) and the culture wars and the conspiracy they’ve been secretly waging for the last 150 years.

Who? The minority parties?

Only one question in a Democracy one has to ask, does this proposal give one group of citizens more power than every other citizen to influence policy if so No. As Equal power to influence their Nations future no longer exists and therefore neither does a Democracy of equals.

Well that would be a fair process wouldn’t it. The AustralianLabor doesn’t like to play fair as it keeps on losing

Second hurdle. The first is that it’s an absolute stinker of an idea promoted fundamentally by shameless grifters and adopted by a hopelessly underqualified and out of touch PM as his “legacy” and also as a handy distraction from the issues facing us peasants.

VoteNo

First hurdle … so not the lies, deceit, deception or lack of information about the voice from him & Burney?!!!

Could this be a result of PeterDutton_MP hearing the silent majority starting to make noise? auspol

This is Australia where both sides of democracy should be herd. We are not yet a left wing country that is permanently hated.. Getting that way

The coalition is irrelevant!

AlboMP banging on about the VoteNo lobby being a threat to democracy- yet wants to legislate against having both sides of the argument presented to the Australian electorate! Who would write the VoteNo case? The 'unbiased' electoral commission? Rigged auspol Australia

Why does AlboMP want to legislate against have pamphlets delivered to households promoting both the Yes and No arguments? I guess it would be counterproductive to his current campaign to quash any opposition to the yes vote! Australia auspol VoteNo

Albo needs to lend them a copy of the 'Thoughts of Chairman Xi'. The opposition has clearly no idea how an autocracy is supposed to work.

That's quite a big assumption that their audience are actually literate...

What a mob of dead beat losers are the LNP!!! SERIOUSLY 😳 you mob scream and shout about the lack of funding by this Government on Indigenous matters!! Yes? So lets get rid of your wasteful paper pamphlets and use that money on resolving the issues for the First Nations ppl

What! Having a balanced, equal and honest debate that all sides might then accept the outcome..OMG The left will have a fit!!

VoteNo

How much is this costing

As it should be

If it’s not equal, it’s not fair AlboMP VoteNO

Who has pamphlets these days. That's old school. Get up to date.

There is no NO case to outline! All Dutton has done to date is pretend he can’t read 2 reports. The same ones he didn’t read when it was tabled in his party room - twice. Makes one wonder what he is being paid for!

Albanese previously said there was no need for a pamphlet as social media would advertise it, silly man then and now he’s saying there’s too much misinformation on social media. The pamphlet drop, for and against, is the only way out for him for equity, transparency and fairness.

Yes and no with equal federal government funding. That's how it has usually been done. But not this time. Why not?

Why is it a hurdle. It’s exactly what should happen as per the Constitution. Albo cannot change it by stealth

That would be the right thing to do. Give Australians both sides of the argument so they can make an informed decision.

That is a great plan. Then the people have informed choice. In the meantime VoteNo

its racist

The LNPCorruptionParty love a good pamphlet

Not sure this really is the “first hurdle”, or even that it’s that much of a hurdle - guessing the response will be, “Er, whatever “.

Do we know what we’re voting for, it would be handy!

As I understand it equal funding for both the yes and the no case is a prerequisite for a referendum.

The Leftovers want what?

The LNP can shove their pamphlets where the sun don’t shine. What a miserable mob they are. How about Dutton puts up the ‘no’ case for debate? What is it? So far, those saying ‘no’ have yet to find a foundation of truth. Dutton as usual playing games and muddying the water.

According to the AEC it is a legal requirement for these pamphlets sent out but of course the corrupt Labor Party has had it removed. This should be done so every Australian understands fully what they are voting for.

Has to happen

As should be the case.

Is that fella behind Albo with the big hat and long beard a mock up? It's always there.

Still waiting for Duttons 15 easy questions to be answred

PeterDutton_MP Its pretty hard to have a YES and NO case distributed when you don't have a clue what it actually is in the first place. AlboMP is all about virtue signaling.

Shadow man and that's right the same old people, ATSIC part 2 only this time it will be the voice enshrined, all I've ever had from them is threats attacking my children with their children destroying property, Australia's big place there's better minds out there with idea's

Dutton having a sook… Murdoch joining in…

Seems like a democratic option

No thanks MurdochFreeAustralia Murdoch_RC

Considering the number of Liberal led matters that I'm unable to even find official reports for, let alone adverse findings, details or recommendations, this is a pretty hypocritical ask.

Stop wasting tax payers money

Because the Libs were so even handed during their time in power. Haahah

The only way labor get it done is to fool people to vote yes, otherwise nobody to n normal mindset will agree to it.

richwal94842899 Makes sense. If Albo is determined to stop 'misinformation' then he should fund a yes/no pamphlet that would definitively outline the case for & against the Voice. But we know he doesn't want to do that. He just wants to bully/shame Australians into voting for his divisive Voice

Won't be happening.

Most people don’t know what the consitituion is, what’s in it and why the Voice should be in it. It is called education, a process for a free and fully informed vote. Or don’t tell anyone and just talk about the vibe.

PoliBark That’s how a referendum is supposed to work!!

Good luck with that Mr Dutton. I have to ask - how much has the PM already forked out for the yes vote. The taxpayers money no less.

Those pamphlets will be going straight into the bin, I already know how I'm voting.

This is how referendums are run

This is pathetic coming from the LNP. The same party that attacks democracy with actions like this. They want an extra voice to push their argument that a minority shouldn’t have a voice. How ironic.

All this is BS what a waste of tax payers money, imagine if they spent this amount of money and time on Australia’s economy as this should be there main priority , a strong economy equals a prosperous country that everyone benefits from , not like this BS voice agenda

Hang on a pamphlet is sent out with information on the yes campaign, if you don't like information you vote no. No need for a no campaign!

Gee..little Trot looking old and grey...

I would be happy with just a website promoting yes & no. I still would like to know the yearly cost of the voice. There will be at least 24 extra bureaucrats, and their staff, etc. It would be much cheaper if we just give all elected Aboriginal senators a voice portfolio.

Should be no need for pamphlets for either YES or NO Can’t people do their own research ?

The no campaign can save our constitution and keep our soverinty protected by the constitution. Albo wants to dismantle it and let sovereignty be protected by politicians who lie.Keep our sovereignty protected by the constitution vote No. Don't give it to lies from albo VoteNo.

So flood OZ with pamphlets fixes what? How is that a solution to just replicate what is already out there and recent polling suggests most understand and are in favour of. Then a Liberal party sycophant working for Rupert..calls this a 'first hurdle' ? Are you off your rocker?

Will the pamphlets be printed and distributed BEFORE the referendum?

Lidia Thorpe’s resignation from Greens makes passing Voice ‘harder’ for LaborFormer Victorian Liberal president Michael Kroger says Lidia Thorpe’s resignation from the Greens makes it “harder” for the Labor Party to pass the Voice to Parliament legislation. “I think it’s harder for Labor, particularly if she campaigns against the Voice, which you’d expect her to,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “I mean, this is why she resigned from the Greens. “She’s in favour of a treaty, she’s in favour of truth-telling commission, and she’s in favour of reparations, and ultimately she’s in favour of a separate sovereign nation.” Who cares what the king of the losers thinks

Lidia Thorpe has made it clear the Voice to Parliament is a ‘con’Sky News host Andrew Bolt claims Senator Lidia Thorpe did everyone a favour by quitting the Greens and making it clear Labor’s Voice to Parliament is a “con”. He said Labor will be angry that the former Greens Senator exposed why the Voice is “so dangerous”. “Labor is saying, ‘don't worry, vote for this Voice in the referendum later this year because it's really harmless, it is going to have no power, it is just there to advise’,” Mr Bolt said. “I say, a con because if you tell Aborigines they are so different and so oppressed that they, unlike any other race, must have their own advisory parliament, how can you then tell them, ‘that said, your new power is not going to have any real power’.” The constitution is a rule book for governing. It serves all Australians equally. Singling out any group, no matter how well meaning, is repugnant. We have the same voice to parliament… one vote, one value. With the details hidden until after the vote, you’d be nuts to vote yes.
