In a letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese earlier this year, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton asked 15 questions of the proposed Voice, including whether the government will confirm the definition of Aboriginality to determine who can serve on the body.Asked if this question was insulting to Indigenous people, Mr Leeser said there were several definitions, and the government needed to specify which one they would use for the Voice.
Legislation is expected to be introduced to parliament by the end of the month and will contain the wording of the question that will be put to the public.

DNA testing would help for starters because otherwise people will claim to be something they aren't for advantage. It's the same as me having traits which as normal in Asian countries and claiming I have Asian ancestry when I don't.
How is this going to help Aboriginal people? We already have so many resources and money given to Aboriginal people with many Aboriginals already heading up these committees. A voice to parliament will change nothing doesn’t matter how Aboriginal they are.
There already a definition. It's a 3 part test: 1. Aboriginal ancestry. 2. Self-identification. 3. Acceptance by the community.

I am a Labor voter and I think that is a fair question. I live in an area where there is very high proportion of Indigenous people, and it is difficult to determine that for a lot of people who identify as Indigenous.

It's a fair questions. For some government services you need to prove you are a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, while some others you just need to identify as one and be accepted as such by the community. It's a large scope that needs clarity.
