Coalition backbenchers push to dump 12 per cent super guarantee rise

A growing number of backbench Coalition MPs are urging the Morrison government to delay next year's scheduled increase to the superannuation guarantee, arguing lifting the rate from 9.5 to 12 per cent in the current economic climate would hinder job creation and wage rises.

"I’m against a rise in the superannuation guarantee at this point during the COVID crisis because some experts predict it will result in lower wages as employers pass on the impact to employees," she said. "Employers will find it very difficult to find that extra money and, perhaps most importantly, now is the time where you want more money in the pockets of Australian workers," he said.

But West Australian senator Matt O'Sullivan told this masthead it was not the right economic environment to go ahead with the increase. NSW senator Andrew Bragg, a fierce critic of the super system, said the retirement review was a critical inquiry within government to evaluate these issues.

Just postpone it for 12 months. It’s not a big increase but we’re willing to compromise.

Hey how about for every six months parliament delay (yet again) raising workers superannuation (not)guarantee we drop politicians generous superannuation by 1%. EBA and minimimum wage determinations included provision for impact on business of superannuation increases.

pauldutton1968 Damn them all.

If this stimulates employment then it raises the question about the impact minimum wage has. It’s a fact that when the USA first introduced min wage that the cheapest labor force lost work. Free markets work.

oh honestly the grim young piranahs

They obviously haven't noted the benifits of the Super fund on the Aust economy. With out it they would have been in recession yrs ago.

Can we cut their pensions by the equivalent amount?

DaveSharma another over privileged liberal sucking Australians dry, limiting their opportunities. If you want a better fairer life, dont vote liberal.

For Gods sake SMH! One must assume you’re being paid for this ongoing promotion of Dave Sharma. Surely this should be acknowledged as paid political advertising! I’ve got a 3 year old grandson with more sophisticated world view that Dave. Give us break from this desperate wannabe

So it’s ok for politicians getting 17.5 in their super .And who pays it the bloody taxpayers .Sick of this Morrison Gov .They will try again to make us work till we are 70 .You can bet on that .Now that they have a 1 trillion deficit .

Don't forget it was Labor that promised to take away franking credits from self-funded retirees i.e. self-employed people, but not union members. Labor was selective about who they wanted to live in poverty!

only after they change their Government super rates to the same as everyone else!! I am sure it would be a different story if it was their increase! auspol superannuation

So the government ends up paying everyone a pension? Hardly sensible policy.

This makes sense. Increasing Super Guarantee to 12% means forcing workers to put more of their pay into a fund they can’t touch until they are 60. If anyone wants to contribute 12% now, there is nothing stopping them from salary sacrificing or making additional contributions.

little by little this gov't wants our super used to fill the gaps in their public programs ! 9pc rather than 12pc means more money for u to spend NOW !

As a federal parliamentarian, Sharma gets 15% super. One rule for us and another rule for the law makers. And they wonder why the electorate is cynical?

That’s it. Screw the workers

In the meanwhile, the people who hang around the Govs around Australia, enjoy +18% Superannuation on the top Over Inflated Salary of +$150k pa! auspol Political Pigs

Perhaps LiberalAus mps could look at their own super and not draw down until THEY'RE 75.

Rather they pushed for politicians to have to wait for retirement age to access their super.

The LNP have always hated super, which are actually deferred wage increases under the Accord. It’s on the IPA’s wish list to get rid of it altogether. Screwing you - it’s in the IPA DNA. Time to revoke their grubby tax free “charity” status before we’re all on $2 a day.

Backbenchers push? Really?

Shocking in that the LiberalAus has tried so hard to kill off super. Under Labor, we would be at 12% by now.

You always know they fighting hard just for you.

And what of the taxpayer-funded 15.4% superannuation these duplicitous roaches pocket?

they are the government . how do they have to push anything

I believe the current SG rate for parliamentarians is 15%. There should be equity for all Australians. If we stay at our current rate 9.5% it is only fair that parliamentarians rate should also drop to this.

Whilst giving themselves a pay rise. Who votes for these people

they hate the thought of Australian people having a half decent life . grubs crooks lnpcrimegang

This same govt who get astronomical super in comparison and...

Here come the welfare queues. Looks like a whole lot more people applying for aged pensions.

The same ones who recently received a big pay rise? 😠

What is the % are taxpayers paying for politicians super? Isn’t is around 15%?

Just work to you die unless you were born with two silver spoons in two places

The LNP are incapable of the long term view. Many of our industrial and societal issues are direct results of previous LNP policy. Trickle down economics that don't 'trickle down' makes the system top heavy, while constantly whittling away at the base just accelerates the crash.

How cuntingly unsurprising 😒 everythingtheLNPdoesiswrong & clearly corrupt auspol SuperGuarantee superannuation

They would say that.

well of course they do

Who's the Chairman of Ch9 again 🤔

Oh and whilst they're at it, let's have a review of the Politicians' significantly more generous superannuation scheme.

Calls from the business lobby groups must be running hot!

The LNP should then reduce their own super of 15% down to 9.25% then too, if they want want to get rid of the SG

How about politicians be subject to the same policies they talk about changing for us plebs

I wish I was surprised. 'Use it to prop up industry' 'No, use it to buy a house' 'No, just don't give them an increase' Unbelievable. HandsOffSuper

At least increase it from 9.5 to 10%

if they dump super for workers MPs should NOT get super as well Bet they'd be outraged if they dont get super Strip hotels perks too They should live in dorms like Indian workers in Singapore
