The Prime Minister has called time on COAG, replacing it with monthly National Cabinet meetings. But what exactly was COAG, and were criticisms of the old system merited?

While COAG usually meets twice a year, National Cabinet will meet monthly once the pandemic is over but will continue to meet fortnightly until then.

"You're genuinely talking about the issues you need to and that's how National Cabinet has operated," Mr Morrison said."We're not going to have the myriad of these agendas which are going on all the time, bubbling up and distracting the core focus." Mr Morrison said he expected the Federal Government to nominate a jobs target at some point into the future, "and that can be the clear purpose of why we're meeting together every month".

Just watched The Project and PVO noted that with COAG journalists could submit FOI requests and review deliberations. Now, the National Cabinet discussions are locked away for 20 years... Trust us, I guess.

There’s a difference? Renamed? Corporate restructuring talk. No change to any citizen. And PM evasive about interstate borders. Only affected “leisure” travel (not true) he claims. No timeline for abolishing them. I am sorry ScottMorrisonMP is looking weak on this key issue. Disappointing media appearance

National cabinet to consider replacing COAG | Sky News AustraliaThe national cabinet will tomorrow consider if the forum should permanently replace the COAG format as the prime minister and his state counterparts eye federation reform post coronavirus crisis. \n\nSky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed the topic will be on the agenda for Friday’s meeting, where it is also expected it will discuss the sticky issue of federation reform. \n\n“At national cabinet tomorrow the PM and state and territory leaders will begin talks on the future of the forum and replacing COAG with national cabinet,” he said. \n\n“They will be looking at what form that would take, how often it would meet and whether that forum is the right mechanism for pushing forward with reform for the economic recovery. \n\n“This is being viewed as a transitional meeting where the focus goes off health and onto the economic recovery. \n\n“With so much the PM wants to work on in terms of federation reform – effectively how to reshape the funding of everything from hospitals to schools – and tax reform, the national cabinet appears the best place to do it.” aclennell When States do their own thing regardless what is the value or the point? aclennell Need to all ask What is the Need & Intent? aclennell Cabinet implies solidarity and support of decisions. This is clearly not the case. Looking at the State’s role is important as buck passing and excess Gov’t bureaucracy in small country is warranted. This couple caught coronavirus on the Ruby Princess but can't wait to cruise againUrsula Steinberner and Leon Sharp were passengers on the Ruby Princess and both of them caught coronavirus. Ms Steinberner spent 10 days in intensive care and thought she was going to die. They cannot wait to cruise again. Ah, the joys of shuffling around a floating hotel, with thousands of others, queuing for the buffet, overeating, overdrinking... for a few hours, on some days, at an actual travel destination... with the rest of the horde from the ship... I love going on cruises. Once this WuFlu is done and dusted my wife and I are planning on another one too. Life is for living. Not my idea of fun but who am I to impose my hobbies on others. Also, buy a rifle. It's fun.
