Northern Territory Senator Sam McMahon’s office says allegations she was drunk in the Senate are untrue and part of a political campaign designed to undermine her chances in a CLP preselection battle this weekend.

Northern Territory Senator Sam McMahon's office says allegations she was drunk in the Senate are "fictional" and part of a political campaign to undermine her chances in a CLP preselection battle this weekend.Unnamed sources told Nine Newspapers she appeared to be heavily intoxicatedFootage from Tuesday night's sittings shows Senator McMahon slowly walking across the Senate floor and sitting beside Attorney-General Michaelia Cash, before exiting the chamber.

Nine Newspapers reported more than 10 unnamed senators from different political sides believed the Senator was heavily inebriated, describing her as "off her head", "trolleyed", "embarrassing" and "maggoted". But Senator McMahon's spokesman, Ashley Manicaros, said the Senator had only one drink with her Nationals colleagues earlier in the evening."A number of off-the-record allegations with no names attached is the height of cowardice," he said."This is part of a political machine manufacturing any reason to dislodge Senator McMahon before preselection, even fictional ones.

"So I don't put a lot of weight in anonymous claims, especially ahead of her preselection in the Northern Territory this weekend."This Saturday, she will seek to again be preselected at the top of the CLP's Senate ticket when the party's central council meets in Darwin.are expected to be Alice Springs Deputy Mayor, Jacinta Price, and CLP Opposition Leader Lia Finochiaro's outgoing chief of staff, Tim Dixon.

Barnaby Joyce, who this week returned to the roles of Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals leader, is expected to attend the meeting.

Another high quality liberal politician.

Fictional? Yes, well, that’s our parliament. And Barnaby is never drunk either…😵‍💫

I hope she has been checked out by her doctor, blood pressure etc. Many illnesses can make you stagger like that, doesn't have to be alcohol.

Unwell... so consumed one drink. Why would you drink at all if feeling unwell? How many word she drink if feeling fit?

It was clearly side effects from her COVID vaccination

Everyone chucks a wobbly now and again.

How do The Nats attract such 'quality' people? 😄

It is outrageous that her behaviour has been reported as 'off her head', 'trolleyed', 'embarrassing' and 'maggoted' based solely upon evidence. She should engage BRS's lawyers and sue for defamation!

It’s not wrong to be tired and emotional.

Somebody spiked her Jungle Bone Softener?

I was expecting the excuse that she was on some new medication and had a drink (or 2) with dinner scenario. But 'fictional' ? LieAfterLie auspol

I’d need to be intoxicated to sit through LNP bullshit

Must be disappointed no one invited her to their office 😂😂

Come on...Who in the NT has never worked pissed? Just another day....

I'll drink to that 🤦

Not drunk, just had 7 or 8 standard drinks over a couple of hours.

Nope definitely not drunk! Pissed as a newt in the grandest of Territory traditions

CLP Senator Samantha McMahon spokesman is Ashley Manicaros ... who sent letters making threats to kill Northern Territory police. They included the threat 'one by one your gang is going to die' ntpol

Maybe she’s read Somerset Maugham’s “The luncheon”…. “I only ever have one thing for luncheon”.

Yeah right. Politically motivated. Wasn’t it fellow Coalition members who were quoted as noticing how drunk and unsteady she was? Is there any accountability left in our parliament?

As someone who professionally had to decide if a person was too intoxicated to remain in/on premises, I can confidently state that the vision of her in the Senate screamed 'drunk'.

Wasn’t maggoted ... just munted.

Not 'maggoted', not drunk, just tired and emotional. One too many emotions for lunch.

She would say that.

The dime-store novelist in me wonders if her 'one drink' was spiked by a political rival, to mess with her pre-selection. The pragmatist in me fancies that there is a simpler explanation ...

This country is a banana Republic.

She looked drunk to me on the video. She appeared disorientated and was unable to walk in a straight line.

Canadian ‘confused’ by Aussie long black when ordering coffeeA Canadian woman has shared her frustration at ordering coffee since moving to Australia, revealing she didn’t realise her choice in hot drink had a different name Down Under that leaves her and the barista “going in circles”. They probably call it something else in France too.. travelling is so confusing A black coffee is not a long black in Sydney. It means filter coffee. Which is not popular so it is not always available, so the default is to just make a long black. When you’re in another country it’s you’re responsibility to learn the local culture.
