Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore says the New Year's Eve fireworks should be cancelled if police and health authorities are not convinced the event can be held safely, as the city confronts a growing coronavirus outbreak.before the council struck an agreement for the NSW government to take "temporary custodianship" of the famous celebrations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The community’s health and safety is paramount. If NSW Health and police can’t be certain that the event can be held safely, it should not go ahead."Loading Under the scheme, entry to parts of the inner city and the foreshore surrounding the Harbour Bridge will be restricted and split into two "zones" from about 5pm.
In North Sydney, Bradfield Park, Blues Point Reserve, Mary Booth Reserve, Quibaree Park, Kurraba Reserve and Cremorne Reserve, will be closed.
