When Peter Hassell's home burned down in a bushfire at Koorainghat last year he didn't think that removal and thoughts of rebuilding would begin as early as today.

"I know, for many here, in the north of the state, they felt that this has taken far too long," Mr Barilaro said."But the crisis down south, the resources focused on the fires … have been as devastating down the south as it was previously in the north.

"I've turned up to community meetings and have acknowledged it's probably been far too slow and I've apologised for that."Each home is expected to take about two to three days to clear, and in many cases locals will be doing the work.Laing O'Rourke is leading the operation, and its managing director Cathal O'Rourke said he has had many approaches from local contractors.

"The wave of support and wanting to be part of this is huge, so I'm confident we'll be able to draw on that resource and people's appetite to get at this to help the community," he said.

Bushfires royal commission 'ignores the role Australia must play in reducing global emissions'The proposed bushfire inquiry's instructions play down the seriousness of climate change, the ACT's leader says. Of course it does. Nothing is good enough for the emissions doom cult. Lol, on the authority of the ACT government. A Royal Commission is simply an opportunity for lawyers and “experts” to debate and get rich. Deflects attention from Govt incompetence - nothing will change - Banking RC is proof of that. Waste of money.
