A police officer drew his gun to defend himself as protestors became a violent mob at Hong Kong's international airport, even detaining and binding a man they suspected to be a spy.

Protesters said they detained him because he wore a press vest and claimed to be a reporter, but a mainland Chinese ID card was found in his belongings.

As riot police moved into the terminal, they confronted the protesters with pepper spray and swinging batons, finding some entrances barricaded with luggage carts. After a brief period early in the day when flights were able to take off and land, the airport authority suspended check-in services for departing flights as of 4:30pm.
