Cinemas, theme parks and zoos benefited the most from a surge of people in NSW looking to redeem their Dine & Discover vouchers in the final week, boosting the economy at a time when it was not needed.

injected almost $1 billion in direct spending into the economy during its 16-month lifespan, with movies, zoos and amusement parks pulling in more than 1.1 million redemptions on the final day of the scheme.

Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government Victor Dominello says “the success of the program can be seen in how much customers spent with local businesses. The numbers speak for themselves.” In the final week of the scheme, more than 3 million vouchers were redeemed, with a total value of $80,943,735, generating total customer spending of $113,695,194, according to Service NSW.

The Australian Reptile Park broke its visitor record on Sunday thanks to the Dine and Discover voucher scheme. The reptile park allowed customers to redeem their vouchers on-site for tickets and online, with online tickets able to be used for 90 days from the time of purchase. “That’s crazy for us because it’s not in the middle of holidays, it’s not when people have time off work when we generally see our highest visitation,” Ms Woodbine said.
