Palaszczuk has 'effectively killed Christmas' for hundreds of thousands of families | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Smith says Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has 'effectively just killed off Christmas for hundreds of thousands of families' as her state keeps the borders closed to Sydney.\n\nMr Smith said Australians have learned a lot during this pandemic, but most of all, that some state leaders will act in their own electoral interests before the interests of Australia.\n\n'The Qld Premier has given her Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young outright power to keep the border closed to five million Sydneysiders,' he said.\n\n'Again, no balancing the ledger between the real risk of virus spread and the $3 billion annual hit to the economy from stopping Sydneysiders spending in Qld.\n\n'And Anastasia Palaszczuk was not budging, and 'lock, stock and barrel' is code for the economy doesn't count; jobs and livelihoods don't rate.'\n\nMr Smith said it was not just unreasonable but unnecessary, hurtful and parochial, and totally out of whack with what the Chief Medical Team in Canberra recommended.\n\n'Sydney is not defined as a hotspot. Young has classified all of Sydney, all 32 local Government areas, as a hotspot despite only three local government areas dealing with clusters,' he said.\n\n'It's appalling judgement and hopeless leadership. Life is not risk-free. The future of this pandemic cannot be risk-free. \n\n'Each state and territory needs to share the wear, accept the risk, and allow their people to work and live.'\n\nWA Premier Mark McGowan today announced his state would be lifting its border restrictions to all states, including Victoria, from November 14, instead, introducing its own set of interstate protocols. Its not even November yet MurdochRoyalCommision Always talks Covid deaths but just like the baby that died because it couldn’t get hospital care other people die from other things than Covid.
