Panda Electronics - a supplier of telecommunications equipment to Telstra and Optus - is 'owned by, controlled by or affiliated with' the Chinese military, the Pentagon says

Equipment underpinning Australia's telecommunications network, including the rollout of 5G, comes from a company the US Defence Department has named as being "owned by, controlled by or affiliated with China's government, military or defence industries".

Huawei was also named as a military affiliate in the list. Huawei has repeatedly been barred by Australia from participating in the NBN and 5G network due to security concerns. The company, which is wholly Chinese-owned, has privately lobbied senior Australian officials in recent years by arguing that its rival European-based companies also have ties to China through their joint-venture companies.

"We've made a very lazy assumption based on particular vendors that everything will be fine. But we've not taken the time to drill down how that manufacture is undertaken," Mr Husic said on Thursday. Ericsson 5G products were the company's most secure, she said, and the company had "check-in, check-out" access to all its software which was designed in Sweden. The company had the ability to also conduct automated testing and visited its factories for auditing and security vetting.

In a 2018 speech, the director general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, Mike Burgess, warned of the cyber-security challenges posed by the "internet of things".

Dear Hon lindareynoldswa Please prohibit CCP operative Panda Electronics from participating in Australian Telecommunications supply chains. I refer to above article and Pentagon comments. Kind Regards cc JohnBlaxland1

Un-thorough reporting. Antennas don't run any software whatsoever, zero risk with antennas. The rest of the network yes, but not with antennas. The 5g network ban is appropriate, but to say antennas are a risk is like saying the metal racks that hold network equipment are a risk.

Get rid of them NOW Quick! BoycottChineseProduct

When Panda was interviewed, they made the following statement...

So what

We can thank the unions for the demise of the western world. Short sighted dumb asses.

Cancel them now!!!

Don't we have the expertise to develop this technology? Use the recent budget expenditure on IT to steal the technology from China who in turn probably stole it from another country.

The clue is in the name really.

Sounds like the pentagon is having guess.

A matter of time and the Chinese language will be the second language in Australia.

Wouldn't working towards global peace and harmony cost us much less? Why? There’ll be fuck all worth defending once the LNP have finished. IS that code for preparing for the Chinese who have some sort of disorder it seems?
