Chinese authorities reportedly begin tracking down people who gathered at weekend protests against COVID-19 curbs, as police remain out in numbers on the city's streets.

Video obtained by Reuters on Tuesday showed protesters in the eastern city of Jinan scuffling with police in hazmat suits and chanting "lift lockdown" as they tried to push through barricades.

In Hangzhou, the capital of the eastern Zhejiang province, videos on social media that Reuters could not independently verify showed hundreds of police occupying a large square on Monday night, preventing people from congregating. "It's really scary," said Beijing resident Philip Qin, 22, referring to the large number of police on the streets.

Residents said police had been asking people passing through those areas for their phones to check if they had virtual private networks and the Telegram app, which has been used by protesters, residents said. Some protesters had used dating apps to evade censorship and police scrutiny.

The media spews headlines Covid protestors (pushing the hate and division)as though all other people are quiet happily sitting home and are quite ok with tyranny and persecution.

Hypocritical of the ABC to be critical of China when they were silent on the same issue in our country. DefundTheABC

I wonder how long it takes AdamBandt to show support for demonstrators calling for the end of the CCP in China? But also both major parties and 'tealdependants' are all particularly silent...it is noted.

Am I getting Dejavu?

They learn tactics from Dan Andrews

Ohhh, right, they're university students now - I wonder if the state media is labeling them conspiracy theorists and far-right activists, though. What would you say about those kind of media tactics, ABC? 🤔

Where is SenatorWong praising these protests?

They're just cookers and anti lockdown conspiracy theorists.

ABC censored and limited interaction with it's articles on Facebook with thousands of Australian users over our lockdowns. Yet it gives the Chinese a platform to have a voice.

The CCP has started hunting youngsters who the CCP considers 'threat to the regime'.

The must be extremely proud of the CCP's militant suppression of Covid protesters just as they were when it happened in Australia Long live tyrannical suppression of protest rights!

Thought you were talking about Melbourne!

Here in the USA, stalk rackets openly poison people without fear of arrest and it is not reported. So it seems like China is the more open and honest society. Am I missing something?

Maybe they took note of Australia’s management of covid protests

Yes all on video for world to see. ABC please remember
