More than 40 countries have urged China to allow the United Nations human rights chief immediate access to Xinjiang to look into reports that more than a million people have been unlawfully detained there, some subjected to torture or forced labour.

Her office has been negotiating access since September 2018.

"We welcome the visit by the High Commissioner to China, to Xinjiang. This visit is for promoting exchanges and cooperation rather than an investigation based on so-called presumption of guilt," he told the council without giving a timeline. It also decried a law imposed a year ago in Hong Kong against what China deems secession and terrorism. The first trials are due to begin this week of people arrested under the legislation.

Never going to happen. China is a law unto itself and should be turfed out of the UN

The Tarim Basin is the largest oil & gas field in China located in Xian province where Uyghurs live. USA generated wars with Iran & Iraq over oil & gas interests, why not China?

If you are not blind there's plenty of individual vlog from Xinjiang on youtube since this shit was claimed. I'm 100% sure SBS is now receiving funding from US gov.

Inhumane Indigenous concentration camp in Australia separating kids from their parents. Calls for UN to intervene and sanction Australia. 👆(Totally fabricated. This is how easy news are created when someone wants to accuse of others without proofs)

Sorry but we need to stop the same thing in our own country. Torturing children up in the nt. It was sickening to watch. Definitely changed my view on youth incarceration. Disgusting!!! I was physically sick after watch nitv documentary. Seen some shit in my life but this! Man!!

Even if they went there they would see smiling faces not the real tortuous existence. China lies.

A bit laughable given China has power of veto over any resolution. Also a little laughable is human rights atrocity committed casually by Islamic regimes under the protection of religious freedoms all but ignored by the UN with the exception of some intermittent damming reports. And yet United Nations are still not allowed to visit West Papua for 60 years! WestPapuaGenocide FreeWestPapua United Nations are very selective in where they look for human rights abuses.
