On Tuesday, the Financial Times newspaper said China was set to report that its population fell below 1.4 billion last year from 2019, in the first decrease in five decades, citing people familiar with the matter. Last year, births plunged 15 per cent to 10.035 million from 2019, the Ministry of Public Security said.
"The census is very accurate, but the reason for the delay in publishing it may be that some of the speculation is correct," said Liu Kaiming, a labour expert in the southern city of Shenzhen.

Two factors affect population growth 1. The SECULAR education of females & 2. their right to self determination. Given those, women will CHOOSE to commence reproducing at 27 instead of 13 & will CHOOSE to bear 2 children instead of 8. Population will plateau within 5 yrs.
