The Communist Party of China holds a ceremony to celebrate eradicating extreme poverty, with the country's poorest now living on at least $2.12 per day, but some experts say Beijing has set the bar for its definition of poverty too low.

China's government is celebrating President Xi Jinping's "complete victory" in the country's campaign to eradicate rural poverty.Mr Xi says China has invested 1.6 trillion yuan in fighting poverty over the past eight years

That was down from an official estimate of almost 99 million living on annual incomes of less than 2,300 yuan per person a decade ago. A report by the party newspaper People's Daily this week on the "historic leap" refers to Mr Xi by his full name and title as party leader 121 times. He said China had invested 1.6 trillion yuan in fighting poverty over the past eight years, but did not give figures for spending planned over the next five years. In some areas, low-income ethnic minority communities have been moved out of remote valleys into newly built towns.

Average income per person among the "rural underprivileged" rose from 2,982 yuan in 2015 to 10,740 yuan last year, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.

TikTok, if people aren't aware, offered examples of young people. Greeting very old impoverished, handing them money, food, shoes, clothes, bathing them, cleaning out their slum, and letting them in on, boom times. Situation news. XHnews japantimes VietnamNews Pontifex NITV

👍 great achievements! less poor people in the world! hope this trend continues around the world!

FYI, there is something wrong with the translation. it's called 'abject poverty or absolute poverty', it's not called 'rural poverty'. those two words have totally different meanings

Lmfao, right.

Surprised other countries don't do the same. Don't raise the income to end poverty. Just lower the poverty line. 😜
