Beijing has laid the blame for three years of spiralling relations with Australia on the former Coalition government, clearing the way for a more stable dialogue with Labor.
Wang’s tone marks a significant departure from years of ongoing hostility between the two trading partners after the Coalition banned Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei from the 5G network in 2018, called for an inquiry into COVID-19 and criticised China’s human rights record in Xinjiang and Hong Kong. China responded by hitting Australia with $20 billion in trade strikes and cutting off all ministerial contact for almost three years.
“The test of meetings is not just in the having of the meeting but in the outcome of meetings,” Birmingham toldon Sunday. “The test here over time is whether we do see an improvement in relation to the removal of trade sanctions. “Australians see China’s foreign policy as a critical threat,” the executive director of the Lowy Insitute Michael Fullilove said at the release of the June report. “Their trust in China continues to fall, and in a dramatic shift, three-quarters of Australians see China as posing a military threat to Australia in the years to come.”

ErykBagshaw Corporate Australia chose to send it's manufacturing to China and other Asian countries and relied on China re: exports too. Now as a nation we realize that China has us exactly where they want us. Australia was once self-sufficient in regard to Manufacturing. Not anymore.
ErykBagshaw China are like the volatile sibling, you need to treat them like a child with calming words to ensure they don't throw a tantrum.
ErykBagshaw wow........its our talented minister to the rescue
ErykBagshaw Of course
ErykBagshaw Typical China. It's never their fault. It's always foreign forces/CIA/NED or some other crap excuse. 😆
ErykBagshaw Is one of the points 'surrender' ?
ErykBagshaw Typical China, giving a vague “four point”, and at the end of the day the interpretation is up to them, same thing happened with our barley/beef/wine trade, haven’t we learned our lesson yet? We need something more specific
ErykBagshaw Divide and conquer, China’s agenda remains the same I am sure the FM is too smart to fall for this rubbish
ErykBagshaw Fair point. Naturally a lot of self-interest here from China, as you'd expect, but if Morrison hadn't jumped on with that bloated bag of lies Mike Pompeo and singled China out, things would have gone a lot smoother. Not that Morrison cared, obviously.
ErykBagshaw Ms Wong, please ask him about the wuhan lab leak. Please thank him for throwing the entire world into COVID 19 chaos. Ms Wong ; please do what we pay you for, or step aside and let someone else do it.
ErykBagshaw And F🤬🤬K Labor
ErykBagshaw F🤬🤬K China
ErykBagshaw How dare the former government support the WHO in their endeavours to investigate how covid started in Wuhan leading to the world shutting down for 2 years. That's where it all started ladies and gentlemen. China needs to pull its head in.
ErykBagshaw Previous government rightly set clear boundaries re CCP. Our current Australian government should continue that strategy. Perhaps that’s why China is wanting to reopen dialogue. Despite that, Australia should continue to prioritise our newly formed non Chinese trading partners.
ErykBagshaw “The root cause of the difficulties in China-Australia relations in the past few years is that the former Australian government insisted on treating China as an ‘adversary’ or even a ‘threat’' Stating the bleedin' obvious. Well, blame LNP + Murdoch & Costello/PeterHartcherAO
ErykBagshaw I'm weary of you SenatorWong selling us to China with the latest news on blaming the Coalition on the frosty relationship with the CCP. Coalition or not, we need to be one country and how convenient for this government to use China on blaming the Coalition (1/2)
ErykBagshaw Here's a thought. Let's give them OUR 4 point plan?
ErykBagshaw Might also have something to do with their list of 14 demands.
ErykBagshaw Australian's won't buy this for a minute. Wang playing his old tricks.
ErykBagshaw Wish China luck in trying to bully Aussies, they will need a fleet load of cargo ships worth of luck
ErykBagshaw The adolescent clumsy way LNP dealt with China was an example of their lack of any skills in international diplomacy or intelligence. Keep your potential enemies closer…
ErykBagshaw Trust Wong to suck the butts of the CCP, that's Labor! They love the CCP, WEF and WHO
ErykBagshaw Coco is shit
ErykBagshaw I bet the wine, beef and barley industries that employ thousands of Australians are relieved to have a more adult approach to China.
ErykBagshaw I’m sure they’re telling the truth
ErykBagshaw China is now hoping it can play the new government for a patsy to further the Beijing junta’s imperialist hegemonic aspirations in the South Pacific. It doesn't want friends. It wants collaborators and comprador agents.
ErykBagshaw After years of criticizing the LNP Government for being vocal and transparent on Xi's regime is it any surprise that Wang Yi uses their criticisms to bully the new Labor Government?
ErykBagshaw It is everyone’s fault but theirs. Sounds like familiar rubbish.
ErykBagshaw
ErykBagshaw Of course they do they pushed back. Wong & Albo will probably give them voting rights.
ErykBagshaw
ErykBagshaw Morning trash paper
ErykBagshaw Some applications of points 2 and 3 may pose challenges to points 1 and 4, perhaps? I don't mind if China is critical of our social failings, the more the merrier in my view. Perhaps also there may be power imbalances to consider in our responsibilities to the pacific community?
ErykBagshaw So it's the coalition's fault that China kills protesters and imprisons Muslims because they are Muslims, and it's the coalition's fault that China will start a third world war by claiming Taiwan as Chinese, very interesting.
ErykBagshaw China doesn't like, or need, criticism from the 'holier than thou' Western colonial exploiters. British China intrusions? US hypocrisy? Just the facts and the way it was, and is. Respect and diplomacy. I live in Aus btw.
ErykBagshaw Good to hear 👍 thank you
ErykBagshaw
ErykBagshaw Never trust 🇨🇳 Anyone who does is either an uninformed idiot, or compromised.
ErykBagshaw The problem is with China. Time for Australia to uncouple of the monster nation of China. Slough off the stink and swill.
ErykBagshaw Here we go… we’ll be part of China soon
ErykBagshaw Is AlboMP all aboard the 4 pt plan and how could his or govt position change from previous, in regards to human rights etc etc. Turn a blind eye. Cop a bribe? Non compete clauses?
ErykBagshaw Maybe China’s secrecy about the outbreak of Covid 19 had a little something to do with it, too?
