Two-year-old Willow was taken to hospital after her Margaret River daycare fed her chocolate cake, even though they were aware of her dairy allergy.The National Allergy Council is pushing for improved legislation around allergy training for the children's services industry.
Her mother, Chloe Pike, informed Bluebird Childcare Centre of her daughter's allergies when she enrolled at the Margaret River facility on Fearn Avenue in January. Confused as to what had triggered the reaction, Ms Pike discovered Willow had been eating chocolate cake containing dairy at daycare. "My husband was like, ' might have kids, he must be very stressed right now. He needs training and that's what we want'."Ms Pike told the centre she would be unenrolling her daughter, and she has since made a complaint to the Department of Communities.
"We would like all staff that work in childcare centres and children's services to be trained on anaphylaxis.
