This year's Federal Budget has no increase to childcare funding but a renewed focus on science and technology opportunities. Here's what you need to know.

The bulk of funding in the Budget to reduce domestic and family violence is the $150 million support package previously announced in response to the pandemic. It says it will provide extra money over the next four years to deliver extra counselling services through the 1800RESPECT helpline over the Christmas period and to meet an increased demand.Last year the Government announced an additional $328 million for its national plan to reduce family and domestic violence, due to end in 2022.

While this may create jobs for young women, there is nothing in the Budget that specifically endeavours to create more jobs for older women right now, despiteMs Varrall said while women working in aged care may benefit from the announcement of funding for 23,000 more home care packages for elderly Australians, she hoped next year's Budget included more economic stimulus in female-focused sectors.

The Government is also moving to cut the amount Australians pay in superannuation fees — an initiative flagged in the first Women's Economic Security Statement — but no specific plan to help close the superannuation gap at retirement.

“The Budget does not include any specific measures to help boost women's super.” Good. Want more super? Earn more money.

Cut costs for your crap would be a good way of funding it.
