The Kansas City Chiefs were crowned Super Bowl 54 champions after a 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers in front of 62,417 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The 49ers defence wilted late, particularly on that Hill 44-yarder and then again on a crucial 38-yard completion to Sammy Watkins which set up running back Damien Williams to score against for the Chiefs and give them the lead. San Francisco had nothing left in the fourth quarter, and its coach, Kyle Shanahan saw yet another late-game meltdown by his team.
Mahomes finished with 26/42 for two passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, 286 yards and two interceptions. His last pass was thrown intentionally incomplete on the final play - a heave downfield to erase the final 5 seconds of Kansas City's 50-year wait.San Francisco was in the Super Bowl for the seventh time and fell just short of winning what would have been a record-tying sixth championship.
