A New Zealand mother undergoing chemotherapy and caring for four young children had to endure a mouldy rental despite repeated requests for a fix. 9News

mother undergoing chemotherapy and caring for four young children had to endure a mouldy rental despite repeated requests for a fix.

"The mould problem was a serious issue, particularly as the tenant is a young mother with four young children and she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the time," the tribunal's decision said.says mould can cause a range of health problems including respiratory problems and infections, and can also affect people's immune systems. The ruling said the tenancy started in November 2020 and ended in July this year after the tenant gave notice.

"They accept that the tenant had to endure mouldy conditions in the bathroom and main bedroom and there was a list of minor defects which took too long to repair or were not repaired at all," the decision said."The landlord acknowledges that the mould in the bedroom is likely from the leak in the adjoining bathroom which has gone through to the subfloor."
